Rainy season has officially started… This is our first rain in over 4 months! It smells so fresh and clean. Rainy season starts in May and goes till October. We just finished “summer” here while everybody in the states are starting their summer, Costa Rica is now starting “winter” (meaning: rainy season).
Ticos here don’t call it rainy season, they call it “green” season because that’s exactly what it is. I’m sure you are thinking, “But I thought Costa Rica is green all year round”. Yes, it is, but it is GREENER during the rainy season as everything will be refreshed and blooming. Usually it only rains in the afternoons unless we are having a tropical storm (which it can literally POUR for days nonstop), but that’s been our experience in Jaco. In San Ramon, we are told that it is cooler, very cloudy and more rainy… but we also were told that it depends on where you are located. It is amazing how much the climate changes in just a few miles. It might be cloudy and cool in our area, but if we drive down to Palmares (which is 10 minutes away) it might be sunny and warm. So, if we need a little sun and warmth… we’ll just take a drive 10 minutes away and hang out at the central park for a while :o)
